Donald has decided to retire from professional cycling to pursue other options. This is an enormous loss for Team PRS as Donald was the sole survivor of the team’s inaugural season 12 years ago.
From Croydon in London Donald had an early life on the bike with BMX’s and then moving swiftly through mountain onto the road bikes before turning professional at the age of 23. It was seen early on that Donald could become a fantastic lead out rider and as became the case, he was equally adapt with sprinting, flat roads and the more technical sections leading him to become one of the greatest road leaders that Team PRS has ever had. He was always very selfless burying himself on countless occasions for the various sprinters whether that be Jasper Eliot, Hugo Sheehan, Kendrick Sanders, Ildefonso or more recently Paulo Roca.
He did, however, have a few personal successes with wins in Sneak-Harlingen (S17) and Mutrah-Wadi Kabir (S20) and two second places during his tenure.
He will be difficult if not impossible to fully replace in the minds of the Team PRS diehards and there are still hopes he will return in the future to bring his experience back to the team in a coaching role.
